Wendy Cork - Costume Designer


Wendy is a costume designer for film, theatre and television.

Wendy brings a wealth of experience and expertise to all her projects and has a keen ability to interpret characters and bring them to life through costume.

After graduating from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Film she  studied Fashion at East Sydney Technical College.  From there she worked in theatre and opera before focusing her career in film and TV. She is an accredited member of the Australian Production Design guild (APDG).

She has recently returned from the UK  filming Jimmy McGovern's  period drama Banished which is soon to be screened on BBC2. Shot in both Australia and the UK it stars David Wenham, Russell Tovey, Myanna Buring, Julien Rhind Tutt and Ryan Corr.

Her work on the multi award winning  Predestination, a sci-fi feature film from the Spierig Brothers starring Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook,  has been awarded the APDG award for Best Costume Design on a Feature Film and an ACCTA nomimation.

Some other notable achievements and awards include her work on INXS - Never Tear Us Apart for Shine Australia, directed by Daina Reid,  Beneath Hill 60, directed by Jeremy Sims, where she was nominated for AFI Best Costume Design Award; The Mystery Of A Hansom Cab, directed byShawn Seet, a Sherlock-Holmes style murder mystery depicting Melbourne in 1880, and whose costumes are now part of the permanent collection of The Melbourne Museum;  The Eternity Man,directed by Julien Temple,which won a Rose d’Or for Best Performing Arts program.

Her short films include Family, directed by Shaun Gladwell for The Turning project; My Mind's Own Melody, a collaboration with Josh Wakely and Daniel Johns, which is currently being developed as a feature film;  Pent Up House, directed by Cate Shortland; and Djarn Djarns, directed by  Wayne Blair, which won the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film.

Wendy has worked internationally on museum recreations and 3D displays in both Canada and Malaysia.

Wendy won APDG recognition for her work on L.A.Noire; a Rockstar game which recreates post WW2 Gangster LA in 1947 directed by Brendan McNamara.

A description of the costumes in L.A. Noire says it all:  "From original concept sketches done in a vintage style faithful to the period, to the gathering of reference fabrics, to the styling of wardrobe for each character in every scene... everyone ... is dressed in a style true to their character and completely authentic to the period."
